A little bit about Green Jeans

Green Jeans is owned by husband-and-wife team Kevin Sadlier and Xander Wessells.

Kevin's love of gardening took root in the 1980s when he worked as a chef at the Pier House Restaurant in Key West, FL, where the rooftop herb and vegetable garden yielded fresh produce for the kitchen. Thus inspired, after a moving to the Bay Area, Kevin was lured out of the kitchen and into the backyard, where he cultivated a garden so prolific he began to supply local health food stores with herbs and greens—ultimately prompting him to leave his career as a chef and take a management position with a local nursery chain in order to learn the business.

Xander's love of gardening began with a high school summer job on the coast of Maine, where she tended perennial gardens with Pinkham's Landscaping Company. During college she spent summers working at Robert Montgomerie's Landscape Nursery, where she was a member of an award-winning team at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Xander also worked in estate management outside of Philadelphia, where her English mentor trained her in the art of........................... Eventually, the long growing season and diverse growing conditions in California drew her west to Marin in 1991. Working with a property maintenance group, she quickly realized she wanted to better learn the California flora and took a job in a nursery—incidentally, the same nursery where Kevin worked—where the two not only discovered their shared passion for all things gardening, but also doing it together.

They started Green Jeans Garden Supply in 1997 and have been running the shop in the same location since—often with their two children in tow. While not working in their shop, they can be found foraging for culinary mushrooms.
